Estimating Method of Short-Interval-Traffic Distribution Considering Long-Term-Traffic Dynamics for Multimedia QoS Management

چکیده
Analyzing short-interval-traffic behaviors is important for network performance management to realize high quality multimedia applications. However, it is difficult to measure short-interval-traffic volumes because there are complications in collecting short-interval-traffic data from routers. An example is a heavy load on routers or inaccurate measurement by the short-polling interval; it even demands expensive measurement tools. To resolve these disadvantages, an estimating method of short-interval-traffic distribution (EMSIT) has been proposed. This method estimates short-interval-traffic distributions using MIB (Management Information Base) data, which collects traffic volumes in cycles of several minutes. In this paper, we propose a new estimation method (EMSIT-LD) based on EMSIT, which applies to the case of long-term-traffic dynamics. We evaluate it using computer simulations and actual traffic data. key words: network traffic, passive measurement, traffic dynamics

Feature Extraction to Identify Network Traffic with Considering Packet Loss Effects
There are huge petitions of network traffic coming from various applications on Internet. In dealing with this volume of network traffic, network management plays a crucial rule. Traffic classification is a basic technique which is used by Internet service providers (ISP) to manage network resources and to guarantee Internet security. In addition, growing bandwidth usage, at one hand, and limit...
متن کاملPerformance Management for Efficient QoS provision and Resource Utilisation in Broadband Internet Infrastructures
An important problem of broadband Internet infrastructures is efficient resource utilisation at access points, while keeping the Quality of Service (QoS) demands of applications stable and optimal. Considering the resource bottleneck of broadband access networks, there is a need for integrated performance management of such networks providing “feedback” from monitoring and analysis of traffic, ...
متن کاملA Fuzzy Based Approach for Rate Control in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks
Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs) undergo congestion when a link (or a node) becomes overpopulated in terms of incoming packets. In WMSNs this happens especially in upstream nodes where all incoming packets meet and directed to the sink node. Congestion in networks, if not handled properly, might lead to congestion collapse which deteriorates the quality of service (QoS). Therefore, i...
متن کاملA QoS Network Management System for Robust and Reliable Multimedia Services
In this paper, we introduce a practical network management system with QoS for multimedia traffic. Today, multimedia applications have evolved significantly and have become an essential part of the Internet. In order to effectively support the newly emerging network traffic, the underlying network protocols need to be aware of the characteristics and demands of the traffic. The proposed network...

This paper investigates the long-term prediction of MPEG video traffic. Predicting such traffic over a long horizon is important for today’s fast networks and internet multimedia services. In comparison with short-term prediction, long-term prediction of video traffic is yet to be explored especially for MPEG-4 coded videos despite its effectiveness in a number of important network-edge applica...
